Weekend Harvest

We spent a lot of time in the garden on Sunday. Our tomatoes and blackberries were in some serious need of taming. And we harvested the end of our “spring” crops to make room eventually for “fall” crops of the same.

Here’s what we ended up taking inside for dinner.

Clockwise from top left: endamame beans; carrots; kohlrabi;
Roma and yellow pear tomoatoes; golden beets

The endamame beans in particular are the best thing ever. They are so buttery. And green-tasting. Sooooo much better than the ones in the bag (which were already one of my favorite foods). We should have planted nothing but these babies. Sooooo good.
But my favorite item that got pulled out of the dirt was this carrot.

The carrot octopus strikes again! Oh no!

  1. Grill, the blogs are great. We think you should move next door to us and you can introduce us to all those vegs that we have not tried. Your little carrot with legs is great. You are truly a lady of a different age.lots of admiration for both of you. moonbeam and Hermleigh love

  2. You had endamame over there!?! No one told me about those. But the carrot… Mutant, man. It’s what happens when you drink tap water.

  3. i’m jealous! can’t wait to start my own container garden here. but i think edamame and kohlrabi won’t like the heat much. we’ll be depending on chiles and tomatoes! yum!

  4. but what about canned veggies boiled in lots of water? I thought they were good for me…i’m jealous…we just have flowers here, no veggies

  5. I remember the days… sniff. We used to get carrots with two legs. One had a “male” part also. After a bottle of wine you can get creative with the “male” carrot and photograph as the legs of people in magazines… very hilarious.
