Trash Day

People throw away amazing things here in Quincy. We’ve seen the garbage truck eat toilets, whole sofas, desks, TVs, lawn furniture, high chairs, strollers. And most of these things are in fine working order. I guess the thought is, if anyone wants it, they can take it; otherwise it just goes away with no hassle. We have helped ourselves on occasion. For instance, Maggie’s book chest/changing table was found on the curb down the street.
But the coolest thing to be found:

Rescued from a construction site and now hanging proudly on our porch. Best thing I’ve ever found and carried home on a run.

Back in the Saddle Again

In February I started up my jogging program again. As of today, I’ve now run two marathons! And this morning Maggie got to go on her first run in the new jogging stroller.

It’s a far cry from what these folks did on Monday (Happy Patriot’s Day!), but it feels pretty darned good to be working towards a fitness goal again.
By the way, what a rush to watch the Boston marathon go past. Inspiring and exhilarating and just darned cool.
And the Magster enjoyed it too.

Maggnificent Monday

And we’re off solids for a little while. Over before it really began. Maggie’s not ready. Her digestive system made that very clear to us this week. Much gastronomic distress and mess. We’ll wait a week or so and try again.

We have gotten a little more of a glimpse into her personality. We think she’s going to be a bit of a head-strong little girl. Perhaps a bit dramatic. She’ll scream hysterically if you hold her facing out and she wants to be facing in. Hysterically. Once she’s flipped around, she’s smiling and laughing and perfectly happy. It brings to mind the boy who cried wolf. How are we ever going to know if she’s in real trouble? Good lord, I hope there’s not another level of screaming we have yet to hear.

Miracle Brownies

Do other people know about these? It’s a fat-free brownie mix that turns into really really fudgy soft melty brownies. Tasty and “healthy” (look past the sugar, okay; chocolate is a bean, a vegetable almost)!

The only mix-in is 2/3 cup of fat-free yogurt. No matter how many times I make them, I’m convinced that it’s not enough liquid in there.
But then it starts to look like this
And after one minute it’s smooth and satiny and just like brownie batter. A miracle!
What’s more, they taste amazingly delectable after half an hour in the oven. Miraculous!
