Ahoy Matey! Ja!

We’ve had a weekend of adventures! First thing we did was go on a tall ship cruise. Bill got to help hoist the mainsail (a literal ton’s worth of canvas). And Maggie was interested in watching everyone work, as a proper princess would be.

Then we went to Walter Gropius’s house in Lincoln. He was the founder of the Bauhaus school of architecture (aka, Modern architecture). The house is exactly as it was when his wife died, complete with her coats in the hall closet.

Whew! What a weekend, ja!

Maggnificent Monday

Maggie has a toothbrush! She’s so fascinated and amused by the tooth brushing ritual that I decided to go ahead and do it. She has an Eeyore brush made for 4-24 month olds, and when I brush my teeth, she gets to have the toothbrush put in her mouth too. She continues to be fascinated and amused and even likes the part at the end when you dry off your face on a towel.
We’re furiously trying to get through all of her summer clothes, now that it’s just about fall. Good thing she has a couple of sweaters to go with all those halter top dresses. Now we have to work on stocking her cold weather wardrobe in her teeny dresser.

Maggnificent Monday

I can’t believe I forgot to give you Maggie’s update from her doctor’s visit last week! She had a great check-up and showed off for the doctor, as she has consistently done. Her height and weight have bumped up a little (to the 6th and 9th percentiles respectively), so she’s doing great, growing a little bit with all those banana and squash meals. They drew blood (a routine procedure for her age group) and results are all positive. Her iron level is on the low side of the fine threshold, so we’ve gotta bump up the lentils and tofu. But she has great vitamin D levels and no lead in her system — that means good bones for this busy body. And she got the go-ahead for almost any kind of food. Still no liquid cow’s milk, citrus, or nuts, but everything else is absolutely allowed. To celebrate this she got banana bread and we’re ready to start yogurt and some cheeses too.

Also — drum roll please — Maggie has two new teeth! The bottom right and the top left incisors are present and accounted for. A veritable mountain range of incisors: MI1, MI2, and MI3. There’s been very little drama with these, thank goodness. And pretty soon she’ll be able to bite us real good.

Maggnificent Monday

Finally a picture of the One Tooth! I’ve been trying all this time to capture her very lonely incisor; at long last documentation of what she looks like with a solitary tooth part. We keep thinking she’s working on more. The one on the bottom next to this one keeps coming just to the surface so her gums are white and then receding back so her gums are pink. And now it sort of looks like just above this one, the top guy is trying to poke through. Who knows. We’re kind of stalled out waiting.
Miracle of miracles, though: Maggie slept from 9 until 4:45 this morning. The previous night she slept until 4. And the night before that she woke up at 2:30, went back to sleep after 10 minutes, and then slept until 4:30. It’s tempting to think she’s passed a milestone and our nights will be as complete as we dare dream they will be. However, a couple nights this week saw us up for hours in the middle middle of the night. We tried to calmly walk or sing or whisper or rock Maggie into at least quietude while she informed us that we were killing her. I think it’s best to expect this sort of behavior and then be pleasantly surprised when last night occurs, instead of the other way around.

Hypothetical Scenario

What do you do when it’s raining buckets and there is one dog saying “It’s time for our walk. We always go for our walk now. It’s time for our walk. It’s time for our walk.” Another dog is saying “I have to poop. I can’t go in the backyard because it’s raining really hard. You have to take me on a walk.” And a baby says “I’m tired of playing in the house now. The house is boring. I need to go on a walk.” What do you do?

Isn’t there some saying about mothers and inventions and necessity? Well, here you go. And we did just fine this way. Baby stayed dry, mom stayed mostly dry, and each dog had a leash hand. Walk accomplished.
