On Your Mark . . . Get Set . . .

So here is the plan for tomorrow:

6:30 Be out the door on the way to the T
7:30 Exit the station and get bearings on the mile walk to White Stadium
8:00 Sit and nurse Maggie
8:30 Half Marathon begins! Run run run!
11:00 Cross the finish line and quick nurse Maggie
11:30 Stumble the mile back to the T and ride home
12:30 Enjoy the sweet smell of tacos in the kitchen while Maggie serenely plays independently
We’ll see how that goes.
Wish us luck!

Progress

Bill’s first phone interview was this morning. Newville College* in Pennsylvania is the first one to take Bill to the next level, and since their deadline was extremely early and they’re fairly prestigious, we have reason to hope that there will be more to follow. In the meantime, things went well, according to Bill, and was at least really good practice for all the many interviews to come.

So it has begun, folks! We are on our way to knowing our next address. Ooo — chills!

*In case there are confidentiality issues with applicants and search committees and so forth, the name of the school has been changed.

Maggnificent Monday

Teeth teeth teeth teeth teeth. Three more on the way. Several sleepless nights. Lots of chewing. White mounds anxiously anticipated. Grateful these didn’t interfere with Maggie’s highly successful airplane trips. Actual teeth anxiously anticipated. Actual teeth anxiously anticipated.
What’s new? We think Maggie is going to be left-handed. She always reaches for the spoon with that hand. If a cheerio gets into the right hand, she transfers it over before putting it in her mouth. She’s still a happy crawler — not too much effort trying to walk — but all of her friends are graduating to the next level at Gymboree. Level 3 means baby dear is more comfortable standing up than being on the floor and is trying to do the walking thing. She’s close, but for now she’ll stay behind. That’s okay; I get three classes for the price of one at level 2. When she graduates it’ll be two classes a week and both charged. Also, she’s pretty solidly down to one nap a day. She would sleep in the morning if I let her, but we’ve found that she doesn’t really sleep at night if she takes two naps. (That is, of course, under normal circumstances. With teeth coming in she doesn’t sleep at night even with just one nap.) It’s a nice sized sleep, though, so I do get to accomplish some things. It’s amazing what you find you can do in just 2 hours. And speaking of which, off I go while the munchkin snoozes. Happy Monday!

Improvisation

I’ve been thinking lately about how I bought this huge amount of full-fat yogurt for Maggie and I’m afraid it will go bad before she can eat it all. They just don’t make those individual serving sizes for whole milk yogurt. Everyone in the world is health-conscious these days. I guess I shouldn’t be one to talk, since I eat the fat-free stuff too.

So today I took matters into my hands. Or exactly the opposite in this case. I dropped it off the counter as I went to put it back in the refrigerator. About half the container has been scraped off the tile in the kitchen and washed down the sink. See? Problem solved.
