Mountain Living

We woke up a couple mornings ago and found this little guy across the street napping on the grass. No sign of mama around – and we plus the neighbors looked around and up extensively before heading outside. We watched him limp across the street and take refuge under the neighbor’s car.

So we called a ranger to come help him out. While we waited, we hung out on the curb eating donuts and drinking coffee and watching him snuggle up to the car tires. We also warned a few dog walkers and mountain bikers to tread slowly and carefully.

Now he’s been taken to a rehab facility to heal that rear limp and fatten up so he can be returned to frolic with his own. This is another thing we probably won’t experience in Germany next year. Happy trails, little fellow!

Farewell Camping

We said farewell to the high country desert this weekend. We found a cool spot on a lovely river and spent a few nights skipping rocks, hiking, toasting marshmallows (over candles due to fire restrictions), stacking towers, and soaking up our glorious mountains. See you in a year or so, Colorado camp sites!

Bike-Tastic Weekend

On Memorial Day weekend, Durango turns into bicycle fanatic’s fabulous fantasm. It’s Iron Horse weekend! I was relieved to not be racing, truth be told, but the whole atmosphere is exciting and contagiously uplifting.

The girls love their kid bike “race.” They ask specifically to do it every year. Although, during the “race” they both typically come in last, knowing they will get a medal and a can of soda no matter how aggressively they “race.”

And then of course there’s the Cruiser Crit, in which Uncle Dusty and Aunt Gay always impress with their creativity and construction ingenuity!

Three cheers for this three day weekend!

Mama Time

Spent the day with my beautiful girls in sun and sand and fun. (Original plan was sun, sand, and boating, but it was too cold and windy! Those life jackets are on for warmth!)

Grateful to be a Mama, and for all the Mamas I know and love! Happy Mother’s Day!

Backcountry Utah Adventures

We have returned from our father-daughter backpacking trip safely and happily, with not even a blister to complain about. We were surrounded by breathtaking beauty,

stumbled upon many different native inhabitants,

got to hear water in the desert,

let loose a little,

and experienced a sight so bizarre that we can think of no possible explanation.

If you can come up with a plausible answer, I’ll acknowledge you in my first novel.
