BrrrrRothenburg

We took the train down to medieval Rothenburg yesterday to walk the town wall and explore the famous Christmas market.

So cool to look over the shingled roofs of town — so many towers and gables and stones.
But it was coooooold. And crammed. So we skipped out early and watched the engineer drive us cozily home.

Nikolaustag

Happy St. Nicholas Day! Maggie’s school put on a play about it (you can see the man himself sitting there in the red robe next to his reindeer). It was (apparently) very funny, about what he does throughout the year — like cavort with the Easter bunny and go to the beach — before he has to start washing his sleigh and filling it with packages. The performance was capped with a song:

This is the holiday when St. Nick comes and fills children’s stockings (if they’ve left him a sweet treat). We thought we’d give it a try and put our stockings on our radiator with a few pfeffernüsse.

It worked! We got a few fun little things like teas and lotions and bath goodies. Loving the German advent season!
